Gartner® Predicts 2024: build a sustainable and collaborative digital workplace infrastructure

oneclick again in “Gartner’s Hype Cycle for Unified Workspaces” report 2019

oneclick has been featured in the Gartner Hype Cycle for Unified Workspaces report 2019 for the second time in a row after 2018 as a sample vendor for Unified Workspaces and Workspace Aggregator. Gartner´s Hype cycle shows which phases of public attention a new technology goes through during its introduction.

Its 2019 report focuses on how changes in people, processes and technologies redefine the end-user computing (EUC) experience.

Gartner sees the innovations in this hype cycle as “the future state of people-centric computing.” The current transformation is being driven by the comparison of workplace technologies with consumer offerings, the increasing number of ways applications and data can be delivered, and the speed at which new devices are introduced to market.

Unified workspaces provide secure access to all applications and data. They are the answer to a changing working world and working styles as well as increasing digitalisation requirements. Today, work takes place more and more independently of location and in an agile interaction with other team members.

A Unified Workspace as understood in Gartner is usually completely web-based and is the central place for the execution of tasks, independently of the end device. Unified workspaces lead to more productivity and user satisfaction, for example by using personal preferred end devices.

Elements of a unified workspace include the management of applications, content and tools for collaboration, a comprehensive identity management as well as extensive security mechanisms and analysis options. Gartner recommends investing in this technology because it enables an agile and personalised workplace and significantly reduces the cost of such a radically simplified environment. Overall, Gartner estimates the benefits of the technology to be “high”.

Workspace aggregators are tools that enable the IT department to deliver all applications and data on PCs, tablets and smartphones securely and in a controlled manner. Workspace aggregators orchestrate the on- and offboarding of applications, data and users. Other functions include 2-factor authentication and single sign-on.

Gartner sees immediate benefits in supporting legacy applications for use on mobile devices and the introduction of Bring-your-own-Device (BYOD). Workspace aggregators are a step toward building client computing environments that are independent of hardware and operating system. Gartner recommends using workspace aggregators when organisations want to rely on application streaming and single sign-on for a combination of web and native applications, and when they have already deployed the required virtualisation infrastructure or are looking for a simple technological alternative. A workspace aggregator enables enterprise applications and data to be delivered to a variety of endpoints from the company’s own data centre and from a public or private cloud.

Finally, Gartner recommends choosing a workspace solution that is scalable, cloud-based, and context-based. All that is given with the oneclick™ platform.
